What Design Trends are Popular for 2014?

2014 Design TrendsAre you a design savant? Staying on top of home design trends can be difficult. They change so frequently! There are a few trends that are coming back around, so if you (like many others) have kept some of your accent pieces or furniture and thrown them in the back of storage, it may be time to pull them back out. Some of the interior design trends for 2014 are brand new, though! If you like to keep up on what’s big and trending in the interior design world, we’ve got some suggestions for you to decorate your apartment rental!

  • Nature – Bringing the outdoors inside is a big thing for 2014. You don’t have to go too over the top to get this design trend, though. Having a rock garden or something similar is a good way to do this without having to overhaul your whole style. Consider getting a small bamboo plant for your rock garden. Faux animal hair (not fur) is also becoming popular, especially on furniture, like dining room chairs and couches. Moderation is a necessity for things like this, though.
  • Glamour – Do you like the over-the-top extravagance of Victorian furniture? You’re in luck. People are starting to go glamorous to play up smaller spaces. Plain white walls are no longer the route to go. Using large chandelier-like decals and statement, plush furniture pieces will get your room noticed. Using blues and floral prints will add a little bit of added oomph to this trend as well, especially since floral pieces are also coming back into vogue.
  • Versatility – If you live in an apartment rental, you already value versatility. It’s great to have a piece of furniture or an accent that can work with different color palettes and styles. Using base colors that are complemented by pops of different colors can allow you to change your home up at a moment’s notice. For example, start with a base color like a natural or nautical blue. You can accent it with bright reds and oranges for a bold effect, or use neutrals to make the room feel calm and serene. It all depends on the mood you’re trying to create in the room.
