What Kind of Maintenance Should Home Renters Do?

Renters

Renters don’t have to worry about any major home maintenance but there are a few things to watch for.

Perhaps one of the largest benefits of renting your townhome or apartment is that you don’t need to worry about those big, obnoxious maintenance issues. You don’t need to worry about major appliances breaking or your shower not working which is super convenient for many people. That said, there are a few things you’re going to need to do. No worries! They’re pretty small in scope but we still want to take the time to remind renters of what you may need to do.

Checking Light Bulbs

You’ll need to regularly replace the bulbs within your own home to keep it well-lit and looking fantastic. Those aren’t the only bulbs to worry about, though. If you notice the hallway lights in your apartment are out, be sure to contact your landlord so they can get replaced quickly. Lighting may not seem like a huge deal but it can actually be a big crime deterrent.

Cleaning Grout

First, you should keep your bathroom clean and fresh just like a spa. To do this, you can use baking soda, vinegar, and warm water to get your bathroom sparkling again. If this isn’t strong enough, hydrogen peroxide may be the solution. If there are big gaps or cracks in your shower grout, let your landlord know. Problems like these can lead to water damage which will just be frustrated for both renters and landlords in the long run.

Maintaining Air Vents

If you can, try cleaning your air vents, especially before you start using your cooling or heating at the start of the season. This makes your apartment or home more breathable and far less stuffy which is important for most renters.

Tackling Clogs

Just like cleaning your shower or bath out, you can deal with clogs through a mix of baking soda, water, and vinegar. First, pour a little baking soda down the drain, followed by an equal amount of vinegar. After it’s done fizzling for a bit, pour water down and your clog should be clean. If the issue persists, contact your landlord! klgirls
